          Both the NY Jets and the Atlanta Falcons are coming off really hard losses and both desperate to regain some control in their divisions. With New Orleans seemingly running away with the NFC South any hopes of Atlanta getting a wild card spot comes with knocking off the Jets with a chance to get back some healthier Falcons after the bye week and try to crawl back into the mix. The Patriots taking their first loss last night versus the Bengals shows the Patriots are still susceptible and this means the Jets still have a punchers shot at the AFC East! This will be a hard fought battle tonight at the Georgia dome and Welcome to JETlife has an in depth look at what it will take for gang green to stop Tony Gonzalez, Julio Jones and Matty Ice!

Keys to the Game for the J-E-T-S
     

Atlanta Defensive coordinator is very much like Rex in the way he loves to disguise coverages ant with Asante Samuel (CB) back Geno Smith needs to be sure not to make the same mistakes he made last week versus the Titans! The windows are there opposite Samuel, Atlanta's secondary has been very questionable even with him allowing an average of more than 300 yards passing in their first 4 weeks. With Holmes out with a strained hamstring, Winslow (TE) questionable the Jets can consider themselves blessed that Stephen Hill has cleared his concussion tests and will play tonight. The big story, I hope, tonight will be the arrival of Mike Goodson! Atlanta is ranked fourth in the league in rushing defense and I'm optimistic that the tandem of Powell and Goodson with a sprinkle of Chris Ivory will open up Geno's long ball and keep Matty Ice off the field enough to keep this game competitive.  Atlanta protects the ball much better than the Jets with a -1 turnover margin as opposed to Gang Green's -10! I know I am not alone in saying that we can't count on Geno to win the game, he'sin the same category as Sanchez in the light that we have to just not let him lose it!

In the End it all comes down to DEFENSE!
       Even with last weeks routing by the Titans, told you not to drink the Kool-Aid just yet, the NY Jets Defense is still ranked among the best in the league! Top ranked total defense and in rushing defense, third ranked in passing-this game will come down to them and them alone. The one thing that is guaranteed to kill us tonight if we don't get it corrected from the last two weeks is penalties. DBs have to step up their PDs! Since week one versus Tampa Bay the Gang has yet to pick off a single throw, trust me when I tell you Matt Ryan is not going to be handing any away tonight either. Cornerbacks Wilson, Cromartie and Walls will really need to step it up tonight and if they can't pick one up, they need to at least get their hands on a few to disrupt the passing attack.They are a plague on both sides of the ball but we especially can not give them free opportunities on defense. Ducasse has looked stellar aside from his multitude of bone head penalties (hit 6 times in the last 2 games with 5 marked off) but this may open the door for third-round pick Brian Waters to see some time tonight on MNF.

GAME PREDICTION
Its going to take a lot more than the 1-3 Falcons to get me to pick against Gang Green!

NYJ 30-ATL 24 and the Sack exchange 2.0 will take another step toward realization tonight with extensive pressure on Ryan. I think we will be able to get to him early and often, 4 sacks tonight with many more hits and hurries. If have to think so, I truly believe that is what its going to take to get an opportunity for our DBs to get some passes defended and hopefully even a pick or two. That will be the difference, if we can get a pick six it will decide the game.

JETS SCORECARD 

               In a game against our most hated rivals, we had everything in our favor and we still couldn't get it done. Though I can't even put in to words the fuzzy feeling I got from watching Sissy Brady's tantrums it still didn't console me after last nights loss. Don't ever expect the Pats to lay down for us like they did last night and in week 7 when we get our rematch at Metlife... if our offense looks anything like it did last night you can probably expect another very painful loss. 

DEFENSE

         A- Such a stellar effort from the JETS D! The only reason they don't get an A+ is because we got the L. Lots of drops by the Pats, unfortunately I can't attribute it ALL to the great pressure the Jets D put on, we still kept Brady from completing 52% of his passes and forced six 3 and outs. Brady finished only19-39 a TD and less than 200 yards (first time he was held to less than 200 since 10/30/11 against Pitt). This is Ryan's Defense that I know and love; suffocating, debilitating and able to exact their will we forced the Pats to a staggering franchise record 11 punts!! And for the second game in a row the run Defense was

unbelievable! Allowing a total of 53 yards on the ground, for the second game in a row the Jets allowed less than 3 yards per carry! If the defense keeps performing at such a high level you can be sure of two things Rex will finish with his top rated defense and this team will not be as much an easy out as all of the pundits suggest.

OFFENSE

          C-   Time of possession for the Jets 34:00 to the Pats 26:00, how do you keep Brady off the field and still lose this game? DROPS! The Offensive line which looked really solid, and the rushing game was decent with Powell and Ivory combined for 100 yards but the receivers were absolute GARBAGE! Mangold and the crew gave Geno all of the time he needed but the rest of the offense suffered from so many blown opportunities. This time Geno was surely above par, unfortunately he had absolutely no help from his receiving corps! All of the receivers stunk and recorded huge drops, none worse than a gimme TD drop by Clyde Gates.  I will go as far to say I still think it was a bad call by the refs, ball never hit the ground-should hav'e been a strip by Mayo and a recovery by Gates for a TD but wouldn't of been a problem at all if Gates just caught the damn ball! Well maybe Hill takes the cake with that ridiculous fumble on the Jets second possession, luckily the Pats could only turn it into 3. The veteran Holmes missed a few sure hits too but came through a few nice gains too. I really hoped Kellen Winslow would've been a bigger part of this game but ended up a non-factor with only 3 catches for 16 yards. Offense needs guys to step up or get out of the way but I honestly can't see any of these guys ever being stars for us. Kinda missing Braylon right about now... 

Geno Smith

           C  For now I'm still giving Geno handicap points so he gets a C, it should honestly be a D+. Made a few really impressive throws, used his check down efficiently a few times but also made a quite a few bone head tosses. A few behind the receivers, a few overthrown and of course those 3 interceptions. 2 of the 3 interceptions were balls that should have been caught but were batted up by the receiver but he was still trying to force it into tight or at least questionable holes. To Smith's credit he did move the chains a lot more efficiently than the Brady bunch ( 15 first downs to 9) and was far more efficient as well on 3rd down conversions (6 for 18 vs 4 for 18). As much as I hate to admit it, I think if Sanchez was out there these past two games with the offensive line handling business the way it has we would be 2-0 but Geno will get better and I do think one day there will be no comparison... I just wish that day came last night!

COACHING

          B-  Play calling was for the most part sound, wish we would have run the ball a lot more but I have to say, every time I screamed at the TV to run the ball Geno put it up for a decent game. Special teams not having virtually any of those 11 punts returned was ridiculous. We got too pinned deep too many times.We tried to bring the extra man with no one back to return the kick the first time and didn't even get close, why try the exact same play on the very next punt? Can't believe we let the Pats pick up Leon Washington the week before our matchup especially as starved as we are on special teams for a decent kick returner and even at RB-it just doesn't make sense but I guess that's more on Idzik than Rex. 

Call him 1 and 0 Geno!

        Ok so Over-reaction Monday is over and all of the critics are all chiming in so I might as well get my 2 cents in too! Leon Washington is a Patriot now! I can't even bring myself to talk about that right now, I'll adress it next week. Let's talk Geno Smith! They called it a par performance, I'll take that. After 2 years of sub-subpar performance from the Sanchize a W is a W whether you get it handed to you with a bone head penalty or not. Those penalties that cost you the game could happen in the opening minutes or it can come in the closing seconds like
it did Sunday afternoon. When it comes down to it Geno and the gang were backed up to their own 20 with less than a minute remaining and it was Geno who said, "It ain't over till it's over...give me time and I'll get us there." He did-that's

        So lets look at his par performance... 24 for 38 for 256 yards with a TD a lost fumble and a pick. The Pick came on an overthrown ball but that was really the worst mistake he made. Geno made good reads for most of the day, didn't leave the open man and threw it away when he had nothing. Didn't force it somewhere where there was nothing and that was the result of the game. One more turnover and the game was lost, but on the other hand one less and the game wouldn't have been close. He did well but it was absolutely a par performance just enough to get the win-but I will take that for Week 1. Now he sees how fast the NFL moves-gets Geno up to speed but a beast of a different color hides in Week 2. Tonight's game is against the Pats and that is going to be his true test.

        The Patriots are depleted on offense (as depleted as Brady and Bellicheat get) but the defense will be in full swing. We have to do better as an offensive line than we did the last time we met the Pats. We all know what game I'm talking about; the buttfumble thanksgiving. Yeah Sanchez sucked even more than usual that game but it definitely did not help that he spent the whole first half running for his life. How well will Geno do against big Vince Wilfork, Mayo, Spikes and the rest of the Pats
front. Geno needs time and we have to do whatever it takes to give it to him. I now have a little bit of faith that he will make the right read, but what scares me is if he sees the window to run-will he take it? Should he take it? Guys got wheels and that's for sure but has he learned to tape his ankles since the sprain he got in the Giants Preseason game? Even if he did, do we really want him to? He gets injured, season over and Rex will be lucky to stay until the end.

        Our Jets D should have no problems containing Brady's second string, we just have to make sure our pass rush is breaking through so not to let these second string guys find a way to get open. Give Brady time and he will make us pay-we all know that too well. Edelman (the only "veteran" WR playing today) doesn't intimidate me but Brady will find that one open man if we don't give him pressure-and lots of it. We know Rex has been thinking about this game for about 295 sleepless nights, he absolutely has something planned. Different looks and schemes, disguised coverages alone won't do- we have to again be the more persistent team. Bellicheat and Brady think the NY Jets are beneath them, unworthy to set foot in Gillette stadium-use that motivation and remember that playoff game in Foxboro 2 years ago when we were 2 touchdown underdogs just like we are tonight against a Pats team in full force.... We came out Titans just like we will tonight.

GAME PREDICTION:  Brady is going to eat the turf in the end zone and that will be the determining factor in the game.   NYJ 26- Pats 24

          KEYS TO THE GAME: NO MORE MISCOMMUNICATIONS REX! Harris, Pace and Wilkerson getting through to Brady will be key. Hit him early and often. Rex will surely know this and try to bring serious pressure with the free safety. BE CAREFUL! That will leave an open man and if Brady turns it into a big score its going to hurt. Rex wants this game bad, I want this game bad, we need this game BAD! Remember the Buttfumble, remember the laughing stock we became after that game, remember that redemption comes through Foxboro.
